Kitchen Renovation

We were more than pleased to return to the home of one of our previous customers when they asked Peninsula back to start a new project. Working with them on plans to renovate their home to create a spacious, new, open plan kitchen diner, the end result would provide a more welcoming and inclusive entertaining space for their home.

Internal wall removal

A crucial part of any home renovation is to understand which internal walls are structural and therefore, load-bearing. These walls support the weight of other parts of a property and removing them without checking could cause serious damage. Any internal renovation like this is classed as ‘permitted development’ so you wouldn’t need to get planning permission to do this type of renovation.

So, the first part of our project was to bring in a specialist structural engineer to confirm we were safe to take down the relevant internal walls. Following the all-clear from the structural engineer, we were ready to start removing all the elements of the old kitchen. This involved taking out the entire kitchen in full – all units, cupboards, worktops, and surfaces – together with the existing ceiling and flooring.

We then had a clear area to start ‘knocking through’ to join the current separate kitchen and dining room into one, reducing walls and doorways to create a large open plan space.

First fix and final finish

Once the knock through was complete, leaving us with one large space, all new electrics and plumbing were installed ready for the next phase of finishing and making good. With new ceiling insulation boards and plasterboard fitted, the existing walls were prepped, all ready for new plastering throughout.

Both ceilings and walls were then painted before all new flooring was laid, while the final part of the process was the installation of a brand new, high-spec kitchen. Working with our customers, the entire project ran smoothly and on time and the result has had an incredible impact, bringing a new heart to their home.
